Day Two

Today's class was definitely not good, but it was markedly improved from yesterday.  Last night I was so concerned with just making it though class, I forgot to try out all of my new tricks for standing bow.

Today I could form thoughts that didn't include Oh holy hell, I'm going to crash into that guy or I can't feel my right hand.  Today I tried out Hannah's creeper method on the first side.  It helped, but I didn't want to stop there, so on the left side I tried to maintain focus on one point per DancingJ and Duffy.  I also tried to pay attention to my stretching hand.  In second set, right side, I tried them all together.  I held it longer than usual.  I repeated it on the left side and again held longer than usual.  Woo hoo!  So thanks everyone for the input.  I'm sure I'll be tapping the collective wisdom again before too long.

As for the creeper method...

I've tried to stay extra conscious of my thoughts in this pose per your post last week, and I realized that I really only move slowly into it for about the first 10 seconds or so. I get myself into a decent stretch, which I try to hold/balance for as long as I can, incrementally moving my upper body down and kicking my leg up bit by bit by bit so that by the last 10 seconds, I am trying like hell to get into my deepest part of the pose.

And the entire time, my eyes don't leave my knee. And the entire time, I am literally saying to myself, "Kick. Stretch your arm. Kick. Stretch your arm."

It was kind of a weird exercise to listen and observe myself that closely...

I think the focus is my biggest problem. I realize I'm so busy looking at my alignment and hip and foot that I'm all over the place. Keeping my eyes in one spot definitely helps.

"Concentrate one point on your left knee in the mirror." It is so totally ALL in the dialogue. :)

Bikram's word on this "creeper" idea, as we're calling it now: "What you waiting for, somebody come and help you?! Get your BODY DOWN!" It's on the CD. Love it. Check it out sometime.

Yeah, the concentration point is working pretty well. I'm holding for longer, anyway...
