Okay, I was inspired by Restaurant Refugee to write my very own meme. I don't have any aspirations of glory or anything, these are just questions I like to have answers to.
1. Excluding religious texts (not that I have anything against them, but I think they're fairly well agreed upon as being essential reading and I'm looking for something a little more personal) what three books do you think everyone should read (these don't have to be favorites)?
- The Complete Shakespeare, William Shakespeare
- Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes
- Illuminations, Walter Benjamin
2. Name three songs you know all the words to without the music playing.
- Starfish and Coffee, Prince
- I Dreamed a Dream, Les Miserables (written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg)
- Me and Bobby McGee, Janis Joplin (written by Kris Kristofferson)
3. What are you three favorite books of all time?
- The Sneetches and Other Stories, Dr. Seuss
- Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
- The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner
4. Excluding Schinlder's List, what three movies should everyone see?
5. What three movies have you been too ashamed to admit to having seen until here and now?
6. If you're a cryer, name the three movies that always make you cry. If you're not a cryer, name the three movies that would make you cry if that was something you did.
- Cinema Paradiso
- Out of Africa
- Goodbye, Mr. Chips
7. What three songs did you used to love but don't anymore because they've been tainted by bad associations or were used in a commercial?
- Here Comes the Rain Again, The Eurythmics
- Desire, U2
- Norweigen Wood, The Beatles
8. Your list of three really overrated movies:
9. Your list of three really overrated books:

10. Name three of your favorite bands (please).
11. Now three of your favorite writers (again, please).
- Jane Austen
- Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Also, TOTALLY agree on your overrated movies list. (Although I do like "The English Patient.") Also, um, you and I could duet on "I Dreamed a Dream." 'Cause of course I know all the words to that one, too.
Ooooh, we make quite a pair... :)
I would totally duet with you on I Dreamed a Dream, but it is universally acknowledged that I should never be heard singing by another human being. So I sing in the shower or in the car with the windows up and the music loud.
1. Excluding religious texts (not that I have anything against them, but I think they're fairly well agreed upon as being essential reading and I'm looking for something a little more personal) what three books do you think everyone should read (these don't have to be favorites)?
• The Complete Shakespeare, William Shakespeare – no, I’m not trying to jock your style on this one, I just love the Bard
• Deals with the Devil, Mad at Miles and other reasons to riot – Pearl Cleage
• The Beautiful and the Damned, F. Scott Fitzgerald
2. Name three songs you know all the words to without the music playing.
• As, Stevie Wonder
• Mack the Knife – there are so many versions out there but Bobby Darin’s 1962 version live at the Sands in Vegas is the only one people need to hear… and yes, I know that version down to the improvisational tics and band instructions.
• Use Me, the incomparable Bill Withers
3. What are you three favorite books of all time?
• The Autobiography of Malcolm X
• Bump and Run, Mike Lupica
• Kitchen Confidential, Tony Bourdain
4. Excluding Schinlder's List, what three movies should everyone see?
• The first hour and 35 minutes of Sicko, the last 20 is the worst of the preachy part of Michael Moore
• Casablanca
• All the Presidents Men
5. What three movies have you been too ashamed to admit to having seen until here and now?
• How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days
• Bring It On
• Speed II
6. If you're a cryer, name the three movies that always make you cry. If you're not a cryer, name the three movies that would make you cry if that was something you did.
• Rudy
• We Are Marshall
• The Story of Us
7. What three songs did you used to love but don't anymore because they've been tainted by bad associations or were used in a commercial?
• Let’s Get It On, Marvin Gaye – simple overuse
• Kinda Blue, Miles Davis – see answer to question number 1
• At Last, Etta James – I ruined one of the best wedding first dance songs ever by using for a “Starter Marriage.”
8. Your list of three really overrated movies:
• Hurt Locker
• Davinci Code
• Anything starring Vince Vaughn
9. Your list of three really overrated books:
• Everything by Terri McMillan
• Everything by John Grisham
• Moby Dick, Herman Melville – overrated and overanalyzed too.
10. Name three of your favorite bands (please).
• John Coltrane’s 1960 band
• Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers
• Tito Puente’s 1972 band
11. Now three of your favorite writers (again, please).
• Shakespeare
• Maureen Dowd – assuming that writers isn’t restricted to novelists
• John Feinstein
12. Three of the best band names, song names, book titles, movie titles ever are:
• One Night Stand
• What’s Wrong with Kansas
• Bourne Identity
2. Kitchen Confidential is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read.
3. I have the same (exactly same) problem with At Last. However, her rendition of You Can Leave Your Hat On is one of my favorites.
And finally, writers is by no means confined in any way.
Thanks for playing! I get so excited when other people play my games.
